This year Chinese New Year falls on 19th February and will be the year of the sheep or the ram. If you are born this year you will be kind, caring and polite. You might love art but may also be shy. If you were born in 1979, 1991, 2003 you are also a sheep as it comes around every 12 years. I think sheep sound nice, don’t you?

In China it is a national holiday and is also known as the Spring festival. It is a time to clean houses, decorate them with red lanterns and families to get together. Fireworks and fire crackers are set off to bring good luck!

It looks very exciting in Manchester. There are red lanterns everywhere and it looks so pretty. I can’t wait for the grand finale as there will be a procession and a 175 foot long dragon will dance around the streets followed by a huge fireworks display. Lucky me, grandad is going to take me to watch it!

As usual, here at the Mouse Club we have activities to help you celebrate the Chinese New Year; you can print out a card or download an activity to colour in. Whatever you do, have lots of fun!

From all of us here at The Mouseclub we wish you a happy and prosperous New Year!
