Diwali is an important Hindu celebration.

Did you know it is also known as the Festival of Lights? People are very busy cleaning their houses and the offices where they work.

It is a happy time because they are celebrating the time when Rama-Chandra returned to his people, after fighting the demon king, Ravanna.

This is why Hindus light up their homes with candles, as a celebration of good over evil.

It is thought that Lakshmi, the goddess of happiness and good fortune wanders around earth today and brings good fortune to clean houses, no wonder lots of cleaning is done.

Many people wear their very best clothes and women sometimes have the palm of their hands painted in pretty henna patterns. I think it looks very pretty.

In the UK Diwali is a very special time of the year for Hindus. There are firework displays, lanterns and families spend time together eating traditional food and dancing. You can make a Diwali card using our card maker to send to your family and friends.

I think it sounds great fun, what do you think? Write to me and let me know how you and your family celebrate Diwali.
