It’s very exciting in Manchester in the UK, as we are getting ready for the Chinese New Year celebrations. It is already starting to look very pretty as there are beautiful red lanterns hanging from all the trees. This year, Chinese New Year falls on 8th February and we have lots of celebrations to look forward to and the famous dragon dance!

2016 is the year of the monkey! The monkey is the 9th animal in the Chinese zodiac. If you were born between:

  • February 16th 1980-February 4th 1981
  • February 4th 1992 – January 22nd 1993
  • January 22nd 2004 – February 8th 2005 or after February 8th this year

You are a monkey!!!!

What does that mean? What are you like? Monkeys are supposed to be funny, active and lively, easy to get along with and quite curious. If you are a monkey, does this sound like you or perhaps someone you know?

I really hope mum and dad take me to the dance displays in Albert Square and then to watch the fireworks later. I also hope it doesn’t rain but that happens a lot in Manchester so we will have to keep our fingers crossed!

If you fancy doing a bit of colouring, Blue Mouse has designed a little sheet for you to do, click here. I bet you are neater than me at keeping in the lines! Don’t forget you can print out a card to send to your friends, go to the card maker.

Are there any celebrations for Chinese New Year where you live? If so, what will you be doing?
